  • Dr. Son investigates leisure and health across the lifespan, with special attention to age and other sociodemographic influences on leisure-based self-care and the implications of these factors for building leisure-based health promotion programs that address diverse needs and interests. Current research includes:
  • Determining the influence of social cognitive factors—including perceived constraints, negotiation strategies, and outcome expectations—on leisure-based self-care practices across the lifespan
  • Investigating the influence of age, gender and race/ethnicity on leisure-based health beliefs and self-care practices
  • Examining alternative models of leisure time physical activity across the lifespan, including age-based models
  • Investigating women’s leisure-based social networks and health outcomes in mid to late life
